On the ground, the Great Blue Heron is not the world's most beautiful bird. Let's face it, they're funny looking! But in the air, soaring with that 7 to 8 foot wingspan, that disappears-- and what I see is one of the world's most beautiful, graceful birds in flight. Look at this picture, and see what I mean!

It is amazing how they fly when so big but that's nature at its best - lovely photo.

I always enjoy seeing Great Blue Herons. They show up here in the spring and are mostly gone by this time of year. Yes, they look terrific in the air.

I've only ever seen them sitting in the water on PEI. Would love to see them in flight.
