In 1926 this monument was created in Wishram to honor the mountain men, explorers, and other pioneers who traveled on the Columbia.
I am not related directly to any of these pioneers, but James Nesmith, a cousin to one of my great-great grandfathers, is listed second from the bottom on the right.

Too bad their black traveler York was not listed. There are some very interesting tales about him and the attraction he gained from the ladies.
What an interesting monument (and a great idea). We have statues to the early explorers but the first settlers are largely unrecognised.
Me imagino que tuvo que ser muy dura la vida de esos aventureros por tierras hinospitas. Por eso es justo su recuerdo y homenaje.
