Nightwatch...

The osprey settles in to keep watch on the nest, a couple of trees away, while his mate stays with the two youngsters. He'll be off looking for fish with the first light of dawn.

The fires are still burning in Eastern Washington. We are not in harm's way, but this past weekend's weather condition blanketed the western part of the state with very thick smoke. The weather returned to normal Monday, and the smoke blew back to the east. We were glad to get out of the house again.

Wildfire smoke in the distance...

This is Mt. Adams, about 40 miles East-Northeast of Mt. St. Helens. This long lens shot shows smoke from some of the wildfires causing so much havoc in Eastern Washington State and Oregon State. Resources are beyond thin. Most of the fires were caused by dry lightning. Laura and I are not in harm's way, but the normally "wet" side of the state is incredibly dry with the drought this year.

Firefighters and equipment-- including those from other parts of the US, military personnel, volunteers, even prisoners are all doing their best. Here's a fire map from the US Government:

Again, we are not in danger from these fires, but recovery will be a long time coming in both states.
