Farewell to a great artist...

Thinking about Andre Previn. He scored movies at MGM while still in his teens. He was an amazing jazz pianist in his 20's -- 1956's "Shelly Mann and his Friends" is one of my favorites. He was a sought after concert pianist who was amazing with Barber, Poulenc, Mozart, Gershwin, Shostakovich and others. He began an outstanding conducting career in the first half of the 60s. He conducted great works with great orchestras. He composed violin concertos and even operas. He was 89. A great life.

Very unusual snow expected Monday, so I'm thinking about warmer summertime temperatures along the Columbia River...

Looking across Maryhill, Washington, towards Biggs Junction, Oregon, across the river...

Stella in the Winter light...

More than a hundred years ago, riverboats used to stop at Stella to take on wood for fuel.  It hasn't changed a lot.

Alright you two! Get back in formation-- you're embarrassing me!

Special thanks to Margaret Adamson who spent a very long time looking and has identified these ducks as Scaup Ducks.  I agree and I think they are of the Lesser Scaup variety.

The gulls and the cormorants love to watch...

This ship's at anchor, waiting for a pilot to come aboard and take it upriver for cargo.

This way, Henry!
