Hi! You guys out for a walk?

We've lived here for almost 30 years and we've never seen deer quite as friendly.  Yesterday evening this one didn't seem to mind us both clicking away with our cameras, but he or she decided to head for the trees when a fire engine siren startled it.

A starling estate...

Every year a starling pair builds a nest and raises a family in the hollowed out part of the back side of a fence post-- just up the road from our house.  The nest is only about 4 feet above the ground, but they seem to like it.  The fence post is behind the mailboxes in my picture from last Monday.

Looking the opposite direction from yesterday's picture--- Mt. St. Helens from Johnston Ridge, 39 years after the eruption...

By the way, the mountain was named for the Baron St. Helens in 1792.  He was the British ambassador to Spain, and he never saw the mountain.

Flowers!

Up the road from us is an cute old house formerly occupied by an older widow.  She was taken in by one of those “reverse mortgage” schemes, and lost her home.  But down along one side, flowers are growing through the overgrown grass and weeds--- Just to show that the spirit of her home is still alive.
